Our favorite 4th of July activity is hanging out at our friend's neighborhood pool with our 5 other life group families, eating dinner together and then watching the fireworks! We have done this for about 4 years and it is always a great day! Shauna upp
My favorite 4th of July festivity is spending time with family and dressing our Charlotte in her best American Gear!! I just love it that she is an American, even though she was born in China!! It always makes my heart happy on the 4th to think about and thank God for that amazing blessing!
We go to the lake every year and spend the day in the boats, beaches and just watching the kids have fun in the water. Once it finally (11) gets dark we end the day with fireworks.
Never posted here before- (hope I win! :) Our favorite part of the 4th of July is grilling with family and watching fireworks... especially the sparklers- they're the best!
We love the fourth of July because everyone is together. We cook out, and swim and catch the local fireworks. Just having an excuse to celebrate together is wonderful. We always take the opportunity too to talk with the kids about freedom and ow lucky we are to live in America. I love dressing ms. Lilly in the red white and blue things, as she did live for 5 years in a country that is not free. I also hope I win, I missed the sale (again) yesterday. It happened to be one of those days where I did not even touch the computer. : (
Our favorite family tradition is to dress all of the grandchildren alike and have a photo shoot with them. We position them on the same bench on my mom's porch. Every year we get out all of the previous pictures and compare how the children have changed and how many more there are.
Fun! My whole family comes down to Hood River and rents a big house for a week. We hang out, eat more than we shold and enjoy all of the little munchkins running around! What a fun idea Sallee! Shannon
Being able to finally bring my 2nd son home from the NICU on 7/4/82 and of course fireworks! I do so hope you pick me...my sweet grand daughter is walking now and ready for her first Poppy Dip dress!
My favorite hloiday is the 4th of July. Being with friends and family spending time together and celebrating what this great country is all about. I of course love all the good food and fun there is nothing better than spending time together enjoying this wonderful holiday.
our favorite 4th of July thing to do is go to Vermont with our family. The highlight is sitting on the hill of The White House (a bed and breakfast) and watch the fireworks!! And also, making smores on the campfire
Our favorite thing to do is our local 4th of July Parade. We've been doing it for several years.
As the kids have gotten bigger, they've been able to ride their bikes in the parade. They decorate the bikes and get to lead the parade with the other children. Then we get to watch the rest of the parade and wave our flags and sing and dance with the bands.
It's very Americana and small town, even though we live in a large metro area.
Our little town has a HUGE festival on July 4th complete with a parade, fair food (love me some funnel cakes!), bands (Elvis-himselvis is a big hit), and a fireworks show. Our backyard meets up with the park so we have a front row seat to all the festivities. This will be Piper's first 4th celebration (we brought her home last August).
Our little guy's birthday is July 2nd, so watching him enjoy all the 4th of July events and fireworks during the weekend has been such a treat. A little part of me hopes that he thinks that everyone is celebrating how special he is! :)
My parents have had a huge 4th of July party for probably about twenty years now, maybe closer to 25! It's big and fun and they live right across from the field where the fireworks are set off. I went from being a kid running around the party, to a 'tween helping mamas with their babies to a teen sitting on a blanket with my latest crush to a mama watching my own kids run around. I'm so excited to go home again this year and have my daughter's first 4th of July (here) while she wears a Poppy Dip! :)
my favorite is going to DC...we did it EVERY year growing up and haven't done it since having kids (8 years ago) but we ARE this year! i'm so excited!!!
Hanging out with our amazing friends who are also our neighbors and the kids. Love the expressions on my children's faces as they watch the fireworks, alternating between joy/awe and fear of the noise. Hope to have one more little face to join us next year!
Our Favorite part of the 4th of July is creating those little special memories. We love spending time with family, and having fun with sparklers and "snakes" .
This year our church is inviting our whole community to a celebration for all our service men and women. We are going to have lots of fireworks and are expecting a HUGE turnout!
Our favorite is spending time with friends and family and watching the kids all swim and play then head out for a boat ride on the lake and watch fireworks.
I LOVE making (and eating!) homemade Butterfinger icecream. It brings back fun memories of our extended family gathering for a week at a beach house in California over 4th of July. :) ~Kristi B.
so. fave 4th of july activity? hmmm. well, where we live, we're fortunate to have several neighbors who have lots of money to literally spend on smoke -- hah. we watch amazing fireworks displays from our own deck. no crowds. no noisy, obnoxious drunkards. just us, the stars, the fireflies, and amazing fireworks. we feel like we're in Disney watching the nightly display across Lake Buena Vista...seriously...these are expert fireworks' launchers. So, loving solitude more than crowds, I'll take my up close and personal fireworks any day...along with a nice fire, some tiki lanterns, and my sweet kids.
b/t/w: i didn't grow up doing anything on the 4th. I think my immigrant parents were a little unaware of traditional American happenings (I didn't even learn any nursery rhymes -- but certainly don't feel deprived).
The reason I love July 4th is because it is MY BIRTHDAY!!! I was born in 1976 so I think the Fireworks are all for me!!! Also I love eating watermelon, birthday cake and watching Fireworks with my family!!
We like to go watch the fireworks in a town about 20 min from our house. They are actually in a park next to the mall. We park at the mall and sit with a group of our friends to watch the display. We used to have a neighborhood picnic/fireworks display, but this year they decided not to have it. We are going to enjoy this first 4th of July with our newly adopted Chinese daughter, Taylor. We are so blessed that she is now part of our family and an American citizen.
We enjoy a local celebration with kids games, pony rides, and fireworks, it's a family tradition and we enjoy the time with our family- I have been going since I was a little girl!
One of our favorite activities is to attend a church-wide pool party at the community pool (rented after hours) and to watch the fireworks from floating in the pool with friends...
My fav is cooking out and spending time with family. This year is extra special because it is the first 4th that will be spent with our little China doll that we brought home in Feb.
Every fourth of July we celebrate our daughter's birthday. This year she is turning six and we can't wait for fun of the day. It is the best way to bring in the fourth. Jenn Bachman
My favorite 4th of July activity, is spending time with my big beautiful family: cooking out, swimming in the pool, and sitting by the fire pit, while my brother-in-law shoots off amazing fireworks!
Our newest tradition this year, possibly becoming a favorite, will be cutting the top off of a lemon and sucking the lemon juice up through a peppermint stick. Some friends shared the idea with us; we tried it and loved it. It will be a regular 4th of July goodie!
First , I just want to say that I have loved reading everyone's favorite traditions....LOVE IT! And have to add mine......bbq,hanging by the pool, watermelon, fireworks....surrounded by wonderful family and friends!!! God Bless America!!
"Up North" as a kid the Fireworks were amazing! We have yet to find something so amazing here so our favorite part is the food. There are so many great grilled dishes on the 4th!
Since we moved to Delaware from New Orleans in 2000 our favorite outing has been going to Philly to the Thomas Jefferson Mall area for the 4th. We heard Elton John sing and saw an amazing fireworks display. We stayed at a hotel all night that faced the mall so we could take a rest with our little ones and an escape from the heat!
Our favorite 4th of July activites are grilling hamburgers/hotdogs, making and eating homemade ice cream, shooting off fireworks at home, going to the city fireworks show, sharing all this with family and friends and most of all being forever grateful to all those who served and serve our country so we can live in freedom.
Our family has always loved celebrating the roots of our great country. The food and fireworks are always a plus. Something that my big girls enjoyed when they were younger, and now that we have a new daughter, we get to add this back into our celebration - We have a little fair for the dolls. Mini watermelons, made out of limes & yellow, mini pies, mini "candy apples", and miniature games for the American Girls. So fun!
Well I hope this counts as an activity. Since my husband is a Marine, every 4th of July we go to a local base for a firework display and although they are beautiful that is not my favorite part of the festivity. Mine comes when the National Anthem is played or sung and every Marine stands at perfect attention through out the playing. You could honestly hear a pin drop and feel goosebumps on your arms. As my eyes fill with tears I begin to feel great pride to be a part of such an established group of men and women who serve unselfishly. It is because of them that we all live free.
we love to go to the Masterworks concert down by the lake. then we watch the fireworks go off as soon as the last song is played. wonderful sweet time. specially if it doesnt rain! :-)
my favorite 4th memory (besides spending it with your family and adrienne's family...hahaha) would be when I was probably 7 or 8 and my uncle took me to see the fireworks. We were so close the paper debris was falling on us. And afterwards he let me ride on his shoulders back to the car.
most of the time we stay at home and watch fireworks from our front yard. kinda boring, but actually not stressful and easy with a small child. I love bringing out neon bracelets for the littlest ones and watching them play with the glowing sticks.
My favorite Fourth of July was July 4, 2005. The whole Stroup family (cousins, grandparents, great-grandparents, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, and so on) would meet at Grandpa Stroup's house on the lake, all decked out in red, white and blue, to celebrate our Independence Day with swimming, food, and lots of laughter. Greg and I had been talking about adopting previously, but as I looked out on the lake and all 4 kids were swimming and having fun for the first time in ten years without me needing to be in the water with them, I immediately thought, "Why would I want to adopt? It's just now getting EASY." BUT Just when I got comfortable with that thought, God answered me in a soft, loving way saying, "It's not about it being EASY for you." Right then, I knew there was a child out there that needed me, and I was ready to start the adoption process and find him.
In the past five years, we have grown A LOT as a family. We now have four more feet, a lot more faith and trust in our Savior, lots of love to go around, and a peek into God's heart for the broken. I am so thankful to God for that day... to imagine what we would have missed if we settled with "easy"!!
Every fourth of July my husband "teaches" the kids how to smoke ribs. This is a LOOOONNNGG process that begins in the wee hours of the morning by soaking the wood chips and is concluded about 10 hours later when the ribs are basically falling apart! I love to watch them mimic daddy and delight in the messy process. Absolutely love this simple memory:) Donna
The name It's Poppy Dip means "everything is good''... it's an expression that our little Solomon used to say (age 2!) when he was happy and it was good!!
Has your heart seen?
...once our eyes are opened, we can't pretend we don't know what to do. God who weighs our hearts and keeps our souls, knows that we know, and holds us responsible to act..... Prov. 24:12
